For this Thlog I decided that I was going to use "Genre"....  So you're probably wondering "what's Genre?" Well genre is actually any type form of writing textual genre can be found anywhere. Some people don't even realize that genre goes from a Facebook post to a PDF file. Genre is literally everywhere we go. Before I was introduced to eng101-108 I never even knew there was a different type of genre, besides movie genres and books genres. Eventually I started to build my thoughts more towards how genre was in the writing not the type of writing category. I was more focused on what the writer was writing about instead of how he was writing and what type of style he had.

When we were learning about genres I felt a little lost only because I didn't understand what we learning at first. After re-reading navigating genres I observed that the definition of genre has changed even more since Bitzer's article was written. Genres can hurt or help people interaction, we use genre to communicate or to degrade someone, people use small talk to avoid social discomfort. Genres are also viewed as rhetorical situations... Well what's a rhetorical situation? A rhetorical situation is when the writer is trying to persuade the audience. Where ever you go you will always find genre in all writings.

On Oct 14 Zack gave us all lesson plans in our notebooks for ethos, pathos, logos. We started going over these in class but I wasn't exactly sure what they were even supposed to mean, after he tried to explain to us what they meant. So I decided on going back to look in my copybook, papers, and google to come and find the writing on Oct 14. This class lesson was based on doubting and disagreeing. She began off saying "Mark was a low life criminal" and the doubting part "But what is it wasn't him what if they mistaken him?"

Whats the main argument? Claims and evidence that guy "Mark Smith was found dead"? Yea in the writing that's some evidence because "she" says he was a low life criminal and he was found stabbed to death.
What does ethos, pathos, logos have to do with some guy getting stabbed to death? Well in this situation she shows ethos by her credibility by knowing that Mark was a low life criminal. She made us understand that just because he's a criminal doesn't mean that someone would've killed him, she is actually making the argument it was a mistake and that's her Logical thinking. She doesn't have pathos really but if she did she would be trying to make the reader look smart.

After learning about these 3 parts of writing I sort of forgot about what they meant but I feel like I understand them again..

In eng 101-108 I have become a better writer by going over a hand out in class. This handout was "Rockin Robin", we observed different moves the writer made. This was a simple paper though but we went deeper into the paper and pointed out what the writer did. He started each bullet out with "Supervising, Leading, and Controlling", that's what I call the related verb move. All of these words would be categorized as verbs that have major position. That's exactly what they are part of. Before I mentioned the related verb move I forgot purposely to include that we marked another move that had a position that was pretty major these positions were "Account Director, Commercial Finishing Producer, Executive Assistant."

This paper was very helpful because when I was going over it again it helped me put my wp2 together and how I should build sentence off sentence and paragraph off paragraph. It also helped me as a writer because it showed me how you should build your paper and form it together. When I write papers I try to make my reader want to keep reading, I keep my readers interested because I make it flow with moves. This helped me to noticed that I should first find the most important points the writer made.

Finally this paper doesn't have much but I can easily noticed the moves it's got. Sometimes I don't notice moves in writings I read because there are some harder moves to catch with-out Zack. But the whole point of this class is to read to learn about writing in different ways.

Thlog#2

From English 101 I have learned how to become a better writer my readings such as Peter Pan cakes Olivia obituaries these writings helped me because because it showed you the comparison between different writers comparing the same topics in 1 short story. This also helped me visualize my wp2. Comparing different writings about the same topic is difficult but Peter Pan cakes takes a simpler review just about pancakes. After reading Peter Pan cakes I see exactly what I'm looking for when I'm reading other writings. One thing to look for is who would the audience be and what is the purpose for the writing. First you need to find the similarities but also why they are different this starts to make the new argument between the writings. The new argument would be focused on the same topic in a different way and based on something different the way this argument would be set up and very complex.
